A lot of things have been going on for the last few days. There’s a scuffle going between the Indian government and Twitter due to this Farmers protest. A lot of tweets and accounts were blocked by Twitter related to the farmer’s protest. With this ongoing scuffle, an Indian app named Koo gained a big push from IT ministers in the country so much that there is a huge hike in the number of users of this app as seen in the last few days. The app has already been installed by more than 1 million users and received an overall rating of 4.7 on the play store.
This massive hike started after the tweet of Union Minister Piyush Goyal who said that I am now on Koo. Connect with me on this Indian micro-blogging platform for real-time, exciting and exclusive updates. Let us exchange our thoughts and ideas on Koo. A lot of people installed this app and started using it and they really loved it after this statement.
Koo app was launched 10 months back under the AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge of India. It is a micro-blogging platform where we can share and discuss our thoughts. The company describes it as “the voice of India in Indian languages”. It is mostly similar to Twitter, you can do everything on this app which Twitter allows you to. You can post pictures, videos and follow other users, like their posts, or comment on them. The most important thing which makes the app different from Twitter or any other social media app is that apart from the English language it also gives you the option to choose your language between some Indian languages including Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Marathi and Telugu.
A lot of prominent personalities started using this app and sharing their thoughts through this app as same as Twitter. Famous personalities like Sadhguru, Piyush Goyal, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath can be seen posting or sharing updates on koo.
The app also won the AatmaNirbhar App Innovation Challenge conducted by the government in the month of August last year. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself encouraged the people of India to use the Koo app during his Mann ki baat conversation.
The app can be downloaded from both Google play store and Apple App Store. Well, you can also download it from the web. And you’ll need a legal working phone number to create an account on this app. With the growing number of users, it can be possible for this app to take over Twitter because a lot of people loved this app and sharing this with their friends and family. This can be a huge loss for Twitter. Most of the Indians are attracted to this app as it’s developed in India. It will be interesting to see whether Koo will take over Twitter in India or enjoy the initial good days.
